WHAT TO EXPECT WITH DERMAL FILLER TREATMENT

Following a successful, face to face and detailed consultation and appraisal of your suitability for the treatment, filler can be administered on the same day.

To arrange a consultation, a non-refundable booking fee of £30 is required which will be deducted off the final treatment price.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH DERMAL FILLERS?

Nasolabial folds

These creases are also known as your “smile lines”, these lines are caused by the two skin folds that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Marionette lines

These creases run from the corners of the mouth to the outer corners of the chin, because of their drooping quality, marionette lines can make a face appear as if you’re scowling, even when you’re happy.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A CONSULTATION FOR THE TREATMENT OF FINE LINES AND WRINKLES

Upon booking this treatment, Amanda will arrange a face to face consultation session between you, a registered prescriber, and herself, where your suitability for the treatment will be assessed and the various treatment options explored, including dermal filler. The product will not be administered if you are unsuitable for treatment. Aura Skin Aesthetics only uses reputable UK-based pharmacies, who supply safe products.

To arrange a consultation, a non-refundable booking fee of £30 is required which will be deducted off the final treatment price.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH
ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

This prescription only medicine is used for its ability to reduce the appearance of facial lines such as smile lines, forehead lines and frown lines. The injections have a toxin which blocks certain signals from nerves, causing a temporary muscle relaxation which prevents them from fully moving.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRP THERAPY?

It is autologous, which means it comes from your own blood so it is a natural substance with no additives, activators or risk of hypersensitivity, so side effects are minimal.

It improves the texture and tone of tired, photo-damaged and dehydrated skin.
It regenerates collagen which helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, improves acne scarring, the tone around the eye area, and rejuvenates the skin's appearance.

The procedure is simple, and safe, achieving amazing, natural results.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF PRP THERAPY?

Following a consultation with Amanda, who will appraise your suitability for the treatment, and discuss expectations, concerns, and possible side effects, we will take a small amount of blood from your arm.

The sample is spun in a centrifuge, separating the red cells from the platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

The PRP is then ready to be injected into your chosen treatment areas. The recovery time differs from person to person, but most people are happy to return to work the same or following day. Most people will be fully-healed after a week.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OF PRP THERAPY?

Immediately after any injection there may be some swelling, redness, flushing, itching and dryness of the skin present - any redness should decrease over a 24 hour period.

  • Bruising may also occur, at the injection sites, with the eye contour being the area most at risk. This will usually resolve within 5-7 days

  • A slight purple discolouration of the skin for 2-3 days post treatment can occur due to the colour of the plasma that has been injected.

  • Paracetamol can be taken post treatment for swelling and pain, but NO aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen/nurofen) should be taken for at least 7 days post treatment

  • It is advised not to take Vitamin E supplements for 48 hours prior to treatment

  • Clean, cool packs are beneficial to be used on your return home.

  • Make up can be applied the following day post treatment.

IS PRP SAFE?

There are some medical contraindications to using PRP which are thoroughly screened for during the consultation process. PRP can be performed on areas where dermal fillers carry higher risk for complications.

What are the contraindications to receiving PRP?

A contraindication is a condition that serves as a reason not to take a certain medical treatment due to the harm that it would cause the patient.

There are some contraindications with PRP treatment, including patients with abnormal platelet function, chronic liver disease, patients that take blood thinners, autoimmune disorders, pregnancy, breastfeeding and a few others. However, this is screened for during the consultation.

I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE PROCESS BEING PAINFUL, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP?

A lot of people experience anxiety around having injections, especially to the face which can be sensitive. There are a few things that your aesthetic practitioner can do to help.

First of all, usually the thought is much worse than the reality, which is why the consultation beforehand is so helpful as there is time to ask questions in order to make you feel more in control and therefore more relaxed.

To start with I use a numbing cream and there is local anaesthetic in the filler too.  I’d also like to reassure you that the needle itself is very fine and small. There is always time given to go at the pace that suits you.

DO ANY TREATMENTS INTERACT WITH THE COVID VACCINE?

A survey has shown that a small sample of people responded with facial swelling related to the timing of their dermal filler treatment and in receiving the vaccine, with higher incidences of this linked to the Moderna vaccine.

The body’s inflammatory response post vaccine happens within the first three weeks, so this would be the longest logical period to wait between having the vaccine and receiving dermal filler. However, based on the available data, it is reasonable to wait for a two week period from the date that you received the vaccine to having any dermal filler treatment, and vice versa.

There is no scientific evidence of contraindications between anti wrinkle treatments and the vaccine, but if you are experiencing an inflammatory response post vaccine, it would be appropriate to wait until that has fully passed before receiving any treatment.
